After 77 years in business, MediKredit has stood the test of time. We’ve also made a little history along the way, delivering a number of important firsts for the South African healthcare industry.

Think of MediKredit and the first generic reference pricing system, MMAP® developed in 1987 comes to mind, as does Therapeutic Reference Pricing and the all-important NAPPI® coding system, which remains the industry standard for the coding of pharmaceutical, surgical and consumable products.

During this time we also pioneered and perfected online real-time claims processing in the South African healthcare market.

Known as the intelligent pharmaceutical benefit management system that never sleeps, MediKredit guarantees uptime of more than 99.5% and a point of service response of less than five seconds. In addition, we provide a wholly owned electronic gateway to switch healthcare claims for public and private hospitals and healthcare professionals to healthcare funders.

Designed for speed, accuracy and absolute reliability the locally developed, internationally patented MediKredit system offers more than a million combinations of rules, thereby providing clients with the most accurate application of almost any conceivable benefit design option they could possibly wish for.

MediKredit, through its wholly owned subsidiary Performance Health, became an unconditionally accredited managed care organisation in 2004. Our service offering, which is steeped in precision and reliability, has also been underpinned by a formal ISO 9001:2015certified Quality Management System since 2003.

In its 50th year of existence, Medshield Medical Scheme celebrates this significant milestone by reiterating its commitment to providing access to affordable healthcare cover to its members. Medshield, an open medical scheme, has been paying its members’ claims consistently for half a century – successfully navigating challenges brought about by the strictly regulated and competitive environment while skilfully managing the rising medical costs experienced throughout the healthcare industry.

Since its inception the Scheme has been serving various employer groups and individual members. Through consistent service excellence, compassion for its members, and dependability, Medshield has earned the trust of South Africans and is one of the oldest and highly rated medical schemes in the country.

Financial stability is a crucial element of a medical scheme. Medshield rates among the best and once again, for the 11th consecutive year received an AA- Global Credit Rating (GCR). The latest rating also confirmed a positive outlook status which confirms the Scheme’s ability to pay its members’ claims. Additionally Medshield has maintained a high reserve ratio, currently about 45%, which is much higher than the statutory requirement of 25%.

Experience in healthcare funding has made Medshield reliable and dependable over the years. These are just some of the hallmarks that have defined Medshield’s 50 year journey. More than 160 000 beneficiaries depend on Medshield to care for their healthcare needs and currently enjoy a choice of seven tailor made options that cater for these specific healthcare needs.

Medshield lives up to its mission of providing access to affordable high quality healthcare through sustainable partnerships. These strategic partnerships are negotiated for the wellbeing and health of the Scheme’s members, providing them with access to healthcare providers nationally. Robust and sophisticated technology systems, built delicately over the past years, have ensured that the Scheme offers convenient and quick payments to healthcare providers.

AHF is an independent entity, which serves to unify, integrate and advocate for the private health sector of Africa with the goal of ensuring the scaling up and strengthening of health systems, thereby spurring greater investment as well as increasing access to affordable and quality healthcare delivery across the continent; raising it to global standards.

Launched in 2016 during the inaugural Africa Health Business Symposium hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, from 5 to 7 October, 2016, AHF laid the grounds for a historic unification of the five regional healthcare federations of Africa, namely the East Africa Healthcare Federation (EAHF), West African Private Healthcare Federation (WAPHF), and the key players of the upcoming central, southern and northern African private healthcare federations along with ministries of health, leading corporates within Africa and captains of the healthcare industry to chart a road map for a stronger health sector in Africa.
